Landscape with the Ruins of the Castle of Egmond, Jacob van Ruisdael
Landscape with the Ruins of the Castle of Egmond, 1650–55

Jacob van Ruisdael

1628/29–1682 · Dutch Golden Age · 6 works

Jacob van Ruisdael ranks among the best-known Dutch landscape painters of the 1600s. His father, Isaack, was a minor Haarlem painter who also dealt in art and made frames, and his uncle Salomon van Ruysdael probably taught him. He gave woods, dunes, waterfalls and ruins a poetic, sometimes brooding mood.
