Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione

1609–1664 · Baroque · 8 works

Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione of Genoa studied with Giovanni Andrea de Ferrari and Anthony van Dyck, then worked in Rome, Naples, Mantua and Venice. Known for biblical and mythological scenes crowded with animals, he was most original on paper: he drew with a brush and oil paint, and he is credited with inventing the monotype.
