1850–1941 · Korean painting · 1 work
Chae Yongshin (1850 to 1941) first served as a military officer. Appointed royal portraitist in 1901, he was praised by Emperor Gojong for portraits as lifelike as photographs, and received the art name Seokgang. After Korea lost its diplomatic sovereignty in 1905 he left his post for the countryside, where he gave all his time to painting.
