Start at the open hall by the trees at the lower right, then climb past the bridge and the waterfall to the peaks rising out of the mist.
Wang Shimin’s inscription says he painted this in the fourth month of 1659 for T’o-weng, a senior member of his literary club, “for your amusement and correction.” The eldest of the Four Wangs, he was a disciple of Dong Qichang and led the Orthodox School, which took the old masters as its models. Bands of mist divide the hills, with houses and a waterfall tucked into their folds.
