Follow the pale tree trunks upward, then compare their vertical marks with the broken strokes across the forest floor.
Morisot’s 1885 forest scene offers a landscape without a prominent human subject. Its close view of trunks and undergrowth leaves little open sky. The trees remain recognizable, while shifts between pale greens, warm browns, and cooler shadows make the painted surface itself an important part of the experience.
