Follow the pale stream as it winds out of the mist, then look up at the hills for the small trees in white blossom.
The right scroll of the triptych shows a spring day: misty hills above a stream that winds across the foreground. Like its partner, it holds no figures; the story stays in the central scroll. The Cleveland Museum of Art ranks Yukinobu among Japan’s earliest and most gifted women painters, and notes that she preferred Japanese subjects and techniques, picturing the landscape and past of her own country.
