Start with the dancing couple at the center, then find the fiddler, the seated musician in the red cap and the small child with a doll at the lower left.
In this late painting of 1674, Adriaen van Ostade brings tavern and village fair into one room: a couple dances to a fiddle while others drink, smoke and talk. The Art Institute of Chicago notes the clear, fairly bright palette and delicate handling that buyers of the later 1600s wanted, and the National Gallery records that over 800 of his paintings are known.
