Trace the table edge on either side of the cloth. Does it line up? Then compare the bottle’s tilt with the precarious stack of biscuits.
Cézanne makes a familiar still life difficult to settle into a single, consistent view. The table’s misaligned edges, tipping basket, and piled fruit pull in different directions, while the white cloth holds the arrangement together. Thickly modeled objects sit beside more lightly sketched passages at the margins.
