Start at the handkerchief at her eye, then follow her lowered gaze past the white dog to the bag in her gloved hand.
A woman sits on a red bench at a railway station, a small white dog in her lap. She presses a handkerchief to her eye and holds a leather bag in her gloved hand. A poster behind her advertises trips by rail to the sea at Granville. The Chicago collector Albert A. Munger lent the panel to the Art Institute from 1890, and it entered the collection through his bequest in 1901.
