Hesitation (Madame Monteaux?), Alfred Stevens
Hesitation (Madame Monteaux?), c. 1867

Alfred Stevens

1823–1906 · Realism · 2 works

Born in Brussels, Stevens trained and worked in both Brussels and Paris. He became known for scenes of elegantly dressed women in richly furnished settings. Clothing, gesture and surrounding objects invite a close reading of the social world his figures inhabit.
