Sir Thomas Lawrence
1769–1830 · Neoclassicism · 4 works
Thomas Lawrence, born in Bristol, was a largely self-taught child prodigy who made accomplished crayon portraits at ten. He entered the Royal Academy schools in 1787, became painter to George III after Reynolds died, was knighted in 1815 and led the Academy from 1820. His polished, flattering portraits show most of the leading figures of his day.
