Rosalba Carriera
1673–1757 · Rococo · 2 works
Rosalba Carriera, born in Venice to a modest family and probably self-taught, became internationally celebrated for her pastel portraits, often of foreign visitors to Venice. In Paris in 1720 and 1721 she portrayed the boy king Louis XV. Her mastery helped make pastel a serious, admired art, until failing eyesight left her blind by 1749.
