Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson

1767–1824 · Neoclassicism · 6 works

Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson was one of the star pupils of Jacques-Louis David. As a young man he supported himself by drawing book illustrations, among them scenes for a deluxe edition of Racine’s plays published in 1801. Drawings, he wrote, “demand the same conception and almost as much study as a painting.”
