The Turkic conqueror Timur (1336 to 1405) was Akbar’s most celebrated ancestor on his father’s side. Here he sits on a terrace under a crimson awning, on a blue carpet whose gold border marks his rank, and hands out the horses, camels and luxuries sent by his grandson, the Prince of Multan, to his followers according to their merits. Shravana, who had worked on the Tales of a Parrot about 1560, painted this page in 1598 to 1600.
