Follow Christ’s body along the tomb from his bowed head to his feet, then look at the bearded man standing apart at left.
Parmigianino was celebrated as an etcher as well as a painter and draftsman, and prints like this one spread his style to artists throughout Europe. Christ’s body is laid along the edge of the tomb while a veiled woman bends over him and mourners crowd behind. The etched lines stay loose and open, close to the look of his pen drawings.
