Look at the boy from behind, from his cap and puffed breeches down to his feet, then at the three jugs and the glass on the cabinet.
A young man in a cap, a short jacket and puffed breeches stands with his back to us at a cabinet that holds jugs and a glass. The two titles offer two readings of the scene: a page serving wine, or an apprentice in a painter’s studio. An old note on the mount gives the drawing to Federico Zuccaro, under whose name it was sold in 1912, but it is now catalogued as the work of Parmigianino.
