Georges Seurat
1859–1891 · Post-Impressionism, Neo-Impressionism, Impressionism · 17 works
Seurat explored how small touches of separate colors could build a picture. His carefully planned scenes grew from drawings and painted studies. In La Grande Jatte, the arrangement of people and the patient placing of marks turn a riverside afternoon into something still and strange.

The Gardener shows that early interest through an ordinary outdoor task. The connecting doors lead to the more systematic painting represented in his later rooms.
