Still Life, Pieter Claesz
Still Life, c. 1625

Pieter Claesz

1596/97–1660 · Dutch Golden Age · 1 work

Pieter Claesz, born in Burgsteinfurt in Westphalia, had settled in Haarlem by 1617 and worked there as a still-life painter until his death in 1660. The Art Institute of Chicago counts him a leading painter of the banquet piece, with sumptuous food and opulent tableware across a richly dressed table, a kind of picture wealthy Dutch buyers loved.
