Mary Nimmo Moran
1842–1899 · 2 works
Mary Nimmo Moran was a landscape artist whose reputation grew through etching. Born in Scotland and raised in the United States, she worked directly from nature and became active in the late nineteenth-century revival of original prints. She joined the New York Etching Club in 1879 and was the only woman among the original members of London’s Society of Painter-Etchers. In her landscapes, closely worked passages of branches and grasses meet lighter areas of sky and water, giving a small printed sheet a sense of open air.
