Marie Bracquemond
1840–1916 · 2 works
Marie Bracquemond worked across painting, drawing, etching, and ceramic decoration. After an early career exhibiting at the Paris Salon, she participated in the Impressionist exhibitions of 1879, 1880, and 1886. Her later paintings explored outdoor light around her home in Sèvres, using family members as models. The etched portrait of critic Gustave Geffroy offers another entrance to her work: its black lines and pale paper reveal an artist attentive to the structure of a face and the character of a seated pose.
