Basawan and Shankar
Active Mughal dynasty (1526-1857), c. 1590-1595 · South Asian painting · 1 work
The Art Institute of Chicago credits its Akbarnama page to two painters of Akbar’s workshop. Basawan, also written Basavana, one of its leading painters and a gifted portraitist, designed the page and painted its main faces; Shankar, another prominent painter there, did the rest. The museum calls the page a prime example of how Mughal painters worked together.
