Anna Ancher
1859–1935 · 8 works
Anna Ancher made the people and rooms of Skagen, her hometown in northern Denmark, central to her painting. She studied in Copenhagen and Paris while remaining closely connected to the fishing community and artists around her. Everyday activities gave her ways to explore color and light: a person reading, a mother spinning, or women preparing geese. In Mother and Child, the small reflections on the wall invite attention alongside the figures. The painting lets a quiet domestic task become a study of how an enclosed room meets the world outside.
