Luce translated divided color into printmaking in this 1897 color lithograph. Dashes of different inks sit alongside one another, building the harbor’s bright water, boats, and waterfront. Although the marks can resemble brushstrokes, the image was printed rather than painted; its luminosity comes from the interaction of colors across the sheet.
