Find the boatman at the right and the seated figure at the left, then compare the dark trees with the pale sky in the water.
Corot painted this small view of trees around still water between 1865 and 1870, late in his career. A boatman sits in a long, flat boat at the right, and a figure rests in the shade at the left. London’s National Gallery notes that his late landscapes favor mood over exact places and keep to soft grays and blue-greens. This title, too, names no place.
