Find the thin white cigarette in the hand resting on her lap, then see how the red chair and the ochre and red background press close around the black dress.
Modigliani painted this woman in 1918; the museum gives her name only as Madame Amédée. She sits on a red wooden chair in a black dress, one hand on her hip and a cigarette in the other. Her gold earrings and small red mouth are the brightest touches in the face.
