Follow the thin, broken ink line around the big round head, then read the letters of Rivera’s name scattered down the left edge.
Modigliani drew his fellow painter Diego Rivera in pen and ink in 1915. At that time Rivera was living in Paris near Picasso and his friends and painting in a Cubist style; his fame as a muralist came later. Modigliani wrote his sitter’s name in spaced letters at the top left and signed his own along the bottom.
