Find the round black hat just right of the middle, then look at how short dabs of pink, green, yellow and blue cover the workers and the street alike.
Boccioni painted these road workers in 1914, the year his book on Futurist painting and sculpture came out. We look down on them from above as they bend over their stones. The Met also holds two of his studies for this square canvas, one of two workmen and one of a man laying paving stones.
