Find the small birds and flowers scattered over the floor and the wall, then see how the wavy blue band at the bottom echoes the frills of her dress.
Mäda Primavesi, born in 1903, was about nine when Klimt began this portrait of her standing, feet apart, in a white dress. The canvas is one and a half meters tall. MoMA’s 1986 Vienna 1900 guide notes that Klimt went on painting society portraits after his gold pictures of about 1907 to 1910; here the pattern has moved into a flowered floor and a violet wall.
