Look through the overhanging leaves toward the dome, then compare the boats’ dark silhouettes with the broken reflections below them.
Sisley’s view of the Seine includes the Institut de France and the Pont des Arts, placing recognizable Parisian architecture beyond the water. Yet the river occupies much of the foreground, and foliage frames the sky. Buildings, boats, and reflections share the same loose, shifting brushwork.
