Compare the one large dark blue shape of the mountain with the many small patches of green, orange and pink in the fields below it.
Jawlensky often spent the summer at Murnau with Kandinsky and Münter, and he painted this view of the town in 1910. It is small, about 33 by 42 centimeters, and painted on hardboard. A dark blue mountain fills the top half against pink clouds, with fields and roofs set down below in patches of color.
